Due Date Movies Review 6/10!

Many of you know that I actually don't see many comedies. I don't like them generally, because mostly nowadays it seems that they thrive on presenting one of two character types. A. The character that is just a normal dude, sometimes they have a flaw of some type, maybe they are to nice, or perhaps they have trouble with anger and letting things go, or they can't let go of a girl they were in love with. Regardless of their flaw, they are basically just a normal and decent enough person, and B. The terrible backwards, freakishly weird, and borderline mentally ill character. With A, you get incredibly embarrassing situations that he can't figure out why he deserved to be in them, or why it keeps happening to him, yet they keep happening, making the watcher feel just how uncomfortable and painful it would be in those situations. With B, its much the same thing as A, except the person is completely responsible for all of these terrible things happening to himself, or another person, and completely doesn't understand at all that is mental illness and idiocy is causing all of the trouble. I find this generally to be completely boring, and a bit uncomfortable, which is probably what they are going for.
This movie has both A and B in it. The characters aren't real, in fact there is nothing really believable about them at all. Robert Downey Jr. is a good actor, but, in this role that only makes it watchable, not really good at all. On the whole, this film has some laughs, I did laugh a few times in the theatre, but like I said earlier, I just don't like films that make me laugh because this person is such a sad person, I prefer to laugh because something is witty, not because something is ridiculous. Also, this film tried to force transitions between absurd comedy into drama way to often, and in such a clumsy way that it was actually more humorous than the jokes. I give this movie a 6 because there were some funny moments, and frankly, I do consider comedies in general to have less production value and quality in them, so I tend to rate them purely on amount of laughs pulled in the theatre. The crowd seemed to enjoy it alright, but there weren't as many laughs in the theatre as one might expect from this cast, and this director.
